Finland and Sweden have moved to acquire the first Patria TRACKX tracked armoured personnel carriers. Sweden has signed a contract for five vehicles for trials and evaluation, while Finland is also acquiring vehicles for evaluation. Deliveries will begin in 2027.

According to ⁠FMV, the Swedish procurement covers five TRACKX vehicles from Patria. Following delivery, Sweden and Finland will conduct national trials, with cooperation between the countries during the testing period.

⁠Patria has not disclosed the number of vehicles being acquired by Finland or the value of either procurement. The Finnish purchase includes related support arrangements, and Finland and Patria have also signed a Letter of Intent concerning potential future serial deliveries.

The purchase builds on the Implementation Arrangement for Common Arctic Mobility.

The Finnish Defence Forces and Sweden’s FMV ⁠signed the arrangement at Eurosatory in June. It enables pre-commercial procurement of the vehicles and information exchange between the two countries. FMV’s Jonas Lotsne has previously said the vehicle could fill a gap in transport across subarctic terrain, as ⁠reported by NDS.

TRACKX was developed in the multinational FAMOUS programme, which is co-funded by the European Defence Fund. It is designed to operate in demanding environments and soft terrain, including deep snow and marshland. Finland, Norway and Latvia signed a Statement of Intent on further cooperation around the vehicle at the NATO Summit in July.

— The transition from development to procurements is an important milestone for Patria TRACKX. It allows Finland and Sweden to begin comprehensive field testing of the vehicle while strengthening cooperation on a common tracked mobility capability, says Jussi Järvinen, Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area, in the company’s press release.

— We are strengthening our production and delivery capabilities with the aim of commencing Patria TRACKX deliveries to also other customer nations in 2027, he adds.
