Leaders of the Nordic parliaments' foreign affairs and defence committees met at the Storting in Oslo on 22 September 2026. The Presidium of the Nordic Council and the defence chiefs of all five Nordic countries also attended, according to the Storting.
The Storting said that the meeting examined whether the Nordic region can become Europe's most integrated defence area.
Norway chairs NORDEFCO for 2026, having taken over the chairmanship from Finland on 1 January, as previously reported by NDS.
Norwegian Defence Minister Tore O. Sandvik was in attendance. Helge André Njåstad headed the Norwegian delegation, the Storting said. Iver B. Neumann of the Fridtjof Nansen Institute also participated.
The agenda included the state of defence and preparedness cooperation four years after Finland and Sweden became NATO members, according to the Storting.
